Review: Fireproof on DVD

TWO WORDS: OUT STANDING!

HAHA! Yes, I know that “outstanding” is only one word, but I can’t help myself. Not only is “Fireproof” a morally outstanding film. This movie, like its Sherwood Pictures predecessors “Flywheel” and “Facing the Giants” portray fulfillment in man through relationship with God. This is the story of Caleb and Katherine Holt, a couple with a troubled marriage, who have decided to call it quits. Caleb decides, with a bit of help from his Dad, that he wants to save the relationship and embarks on a journey to rescue his marriage. The story unfolds comically, tearfully and dramatically through Caleb’s career as a firefighter and Katherine’s contemplation of a new relationship.

This is a MUST SEE – MAKE A DATE RIGHT NOW WITH YOUR SPOUSE movie!

The DVD has some wonderful special features, including the Fireproof Bible Study complete with video clips! The Lord has truly blessed the group from Sherwood Community Church with an incredible film-making ministry. I can’t wait for their next effort. But while I do, I will watch their films over and over again!

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics . By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons. I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations. The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying. BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures. I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended. I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process! So keep practicing. Keep sharing and discussing. Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp! For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others! And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT! I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!! We are at war boys and girls. And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact. If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.
