Here is my review of this amazing novel:
First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to D. Barkley Briggs and his publisher for sending me a copy of The Book of Names to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, but haven’t been very consistent in taking the time to thank them in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me.
Here is the review I posted for the blog tour back in August 2008.
“The Book of Names” by D. Barkley Briggs is not what I expected. I’m not sure exactly what I expected when I cracked the cover. The title reminded me of one of those books you pick up when you’re expecting a baby so you can try to choose a name for your child that has some meaning. However, what I got was a wonderfully crafted fantasy read that transported me through a present-day portal into another world. By the side of teenaged hero brothers, Hadyn and Ewan Barlow, this easily readable adventure brought to life the meticulously crafted land of Karac Tor.
My biggest gripe is that this is the first in a series. I don’t want to be hooked on another series. Unfortunately, that is impossible with this book. It is a thoroughly enjoyable novel for young adults as well as the young at heart.
