Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):

1.Kings Menasseh and Amon did evil in the eyes of the Lord (2 Chronicles 33)

Principle:  One positive action for the Lord out of distress does not change a life from evil to right.

2.King Josiah did right in the eyes of the Lord (2 Chronicles 34-35)

Principle:  An imperfect life of seeking the Lord is considered right in His eyes.

3.Kings Jehoahaz, Eliakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah lead to Babylonian captivity (2 Chronicles 36)

Principle:  Unrepentant rebellion against the Lord leads to captivity.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Menasseh, Amon, Josiah, Jehoahaz, Eliakim, Jehoiachin, Zedekiah (precede) Babylonian exile.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK The Lord desires people to seek Him, rewarding those who do and giving many chances to those who don’t, wanting no one to perish.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.What are you willing to commit to or give up to align yourself with God’s plan in areas where your heart and/or mind have grown stale or apathetic toward God and/or people?

2.What areas of your heart and mind are being healed, refreshed, renewed, and strengthened by the time you’re spending with the Lord in prayer and Bible reading/study/meditation?

3.How will you respond to God’s conviction of your areas of rebellion against Him?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

Pursuit

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
