Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man):

1.Joseph’s jealous brothers sold him into slavery (Genesis 37)

Principle:  The suffering God allows is purposeful.

2.Judah left his brothers, married, fathered three boys, then twins with his daughter-in-law (Genesis 38)

Principle:  God is a patient Judge, wanting all to repent.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery and Judah fathers sons.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK God will redeem wrong done to you, through you and by you.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How does knowing God loves you help you endure unjust suffering?

2.What are you clinging to out of fear that you should be releasing (Judah-Shuah)?  And how will you pry your fingers off?

Where is God pushing you out of your comfort zone to help someone else (Tamar – more righteous than Judah)?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

God’s plan uses our pain, suffering, disappointment and poor choices.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
