Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division):

1.Judas guides soldiers to Jesus, Peter cuts off the High Priest’s servant’s ear and Jesus is taken to Annas (1-14)

Principle: Obedience to God’s plan, though sometimes painful, glorifies God and is best for us.

2.Peter and another disciple follow Jesus, where Peter denies being His disciple (15-18)

Principle: Following Jesus is a challenge that draws us closer to Christ.

3.The High Priest questions Jesus then sends Him, bound to Caiaphas (19-24)

Principle: Jesus handles interrogation and abuse with grace and dignity – an example believers should prepare to follow.

4.Peter denies being Christ’s disciple and being with Him in the garden then the rooster begins to crow (25-27)

Principle: Denying Christ can be tempting when we’re afraid, so believers must prepare to answer for the hope we have in Jesus.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Arrested Jesus is questioned and Peter denies Him three times.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, etc.):

TCMATK Following Jesus is surprising, costly and challenging, resulting in a deeply meaningful and fulfilling relationship with Christ.

Jesus calls believers to follow Him…

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about life change):

1.Where do you turn and what do you do when things don’t go as you planned?

2.How have you followed Jesus so far and what preparations have you made/will you make so you don’t give up following Him when the path is difficult and may cost you much?

3.What questions do you have about Jesus’ teaching and what path will you take to resolve those questions?

How have you prepared yourself to respond to interrogation and abuse heaped on you because of your faith?

4.In what areas of your life are you not a “sold out” disciple of Christ and what will you do today to change that?

How would you counsel a Christian friend who fears she has disappointed Christ?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
