This Week On WORD up! July 14, 2008

Happy Bastille Day, Everyone!

We've got our first contest on my blog this week.

Stop by today to read my review and an excerpt from "A Passion Most Pure" by Julie Lessman. This is a wonderful historical romance! And don’t forget – you can win a copy of this book this week. Simply leave a comment (including your email address) on ANY post AND sign up for my newsletter, and I will enter you to win a signed copy of the book directly from the author! The drawing will be held on Wednesday, July 16th. Submit on a comment on the post for this book, and receive an extra entry.

Tuesday's non-fiction feature is a comparative religions book called "What’s the Big Deal About Other Religions" by John Ankerberg and Dillon Burroughs. This is actually an informative taste of the beliefs of other religions that could make your Christian witness more effective.

Wednesday is the drawing for “A Passion Most Pure” by Julie Lessman.

Friday showcases an intriguing science-fiction/fantasy title: "Flashpoint: Book One of the Underground". This novel by Frank Creed is being called “Moses meets ‘The Matrix’” by reviewers.

As always, please stop by, check out the reviews and leave comments about what you think. Peruse the blog archive for previously reviewed books, Bible studies and devotionals. Sign up for my weekly newsletter to be notified when new articles are posted automatically.

And COMING SOON...

...online Bible study! I'll be posting notes and thoughts, and you can participate in discussion by leaving comments. So, even though we may not be able to meet in the same room, we can still share our thoughts on scripture. So check back on September 3rd for "Faithful Love in Human Relationships", a study of the book of Ruth.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
