Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):
1.Jonah ran away from the Lord (Jonah 1:1-17)
Principle: There
is nowhere you can run to get away from God.
2.Jonah prayed from inside the fish (Jonah 2:1-10)
Principle: Challenging
circumstances entice people to pray.
3.Jonah preached and Nineveh believed (Jonah 3:1-10)
Principle: God’s
Word changes hearts.
4.Jonah became angry (Jonah 4:1-11)
Principle: Our
Christlikeness is revealed by our attitude toward our enemies’ redemption.
Subject Sentence (10-word
sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):
Jonah ran away, prayed, preached to Nineveh, and became
angry.
Aim (“To Cause My
Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):
TCMATK God wants all people to come to repentance, and
calls His people to share the good news of redemption with everyone.
Application (not
yes or no question. Meant to bring about
heart change):
1.How might you pray (and act) to embrace God’s call upon
your life rather than run away from Him?
2.How might you encourage yourself to pray fervently in
good times, and not just in challenging times?
3.How is God using you to spread His gospel message?
4.What needs to change in your heart for you to willingly
share the Gospel with those from whom you’ve been withholding the good news?
The Big Idea (author’s
main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is
about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is
trying to convey this):
Redemption.
