The Essential Andrew Murray Collection

The Essential Andrew Murray Collection

Three Classic Andrew Murray Books in One Wisdom-Filled Volume

The powerful writings of Andrew Murray, the nineteenth-century minister and author, still inspire today.

· In Humility, Murray calls all Christians to turn from pride, empty themselves, and study the character of Christ, who will then fill them with His grace. It is often called the best work ever written on the topic.
· Abiding in Christ invites you to listen to words from Scripture, read a daily meditation, pray, and surrender yourself anew to Christ. This thirty-one-day devotional is as timely now as it was in 1895 when it was first published.
· Living a Prayerful Life outlines the way to overcome prayerlessness, which Murray believed was the greatest roadblock to spiritual growth. He offers inspiring and practical guidelines for becoming a prayer warrior, including examples from the prayer lives of the apostle Paul, George Müller, and Hudson Taylor.

The wisdom in these pages will encourage and equip you to live a life of humility, surrender, and prayer, bringing you closer to the One who created you and longs to be with you.

Each title in this collection has been edited for today's reader.

Andrew Murray (1828-1917) was born in South Africa. After receiving his education in Scotland and Holland, he returned to South Africa and spent his life there as a pastor, missionary, and author of many devotional books. He and his wife, Emma, raised eight children.

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to the late Andrew Murray and his publisher for sending me a copy of "The Essential Andrew Murray Collection" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

No one writes like this anymore!  “The Essential Andrew Murray Collection” by Andrew Murray is a beautifully penned compilation of three of Andrew Murray’s well-known works: “Humility”, “Abiding in Christ” and “Living a Prayerful Life”, all in one volume!  This is one book for the keeper shelf that you will refer back to again and again.

“Humility” shares the attitude and action of the attribute, pointing to the Savior and His character and providing encouragement to live out the attribute for the believer.  Twelve chapters can be read straight through or one per month for twelve months as a refresher.

“Abiding in Christ” is 31 chapters – enough for one month of daily quiet time reading – that talks about the life of the Christian as well as who Jesus is to the Christian.  This encouraging book will enlighten the Christian about the process of God transforming us from day to day.

“Living a Prayerful Life” talks about many aspects of prayer.  Arranged in 31 chapters, this is another great, daily quiet time read.  It is also a great reference for prayer.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
