A Summer of Psalms - Psalm 2

The world is in crazy turmoil right now, isn’t it?  Sometimes I wonder if Solomon would still write, “There is nothing new under the sun,” if he were alive today.  Honestly, I believe he would.  We wonder why Jesus isn’t dealing with the oppression and turmoil present in our world today.  A friend of mine recently answered that question when it was posed to her like this: the Jews asked the same of Jesus when He walked the earth.  The Jews were expecting a warrior King to come and rescue them from Roman oppression.  We expect deliverance from persecution, poverty, racism, and much more.  But Jesus’ mission is so much bigger than all those things combined!  He came to deliver the world from sin!  Let that sink in for a minute.   You may question why the Lord is allowing you to suffer…why He is delaying in His second coming, because just when you think things can’t get any worse, they do.   Scripture says He is not tarrying.   He is waiting patiently for people to come to repentance

A Summer of Psalms - Psalm 1

Welcome to Week 1 of the Summer of Psalms.  Today, we are going to look at Psalm 1.  These six (6) verses talk about w hat we delight in.  We are going to see that The righteous way prospers, the wicked way leads to destruction. When we walk away from our time together today, I want you to know that Righteousness is the more desirable path. Our Psalm is divided into two parts: 1.        Blessed are those who delight in God’s law (1-3, 6a) 2.        The wicked will blow away like chaff (4-5, 6b) Let’s pray and get reading. Holy Father, open our eyes to see what You want us to know today.  Change how we think.  Change how we pray.  Change our preferences and choices to be a better reflection of Jesus in us.  It’s in His mighty name I ask this.  Amen. Read Psalm 1:1-3. So, verse one tells us what the blessed, or “happy” person does not do.  He or she doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked.  In other words, he doesn’t listen to or take advice from wicked people. A Summer of Psalms

This summer, I am studying several Psalms with a great group of women!  It’s a twelve (12) week study called Psalms: Prayers of the Heart by Eugene Petersen.  It’s a really tiny book with very little commentary, and some powerful questions.  I say this to explain the reason for choosing the Psalms that I’ll be writing about over the next twelve weeks.  Here is the schedule: Week 1 – Psalm 1 Week 2 – Psalm 2 Week 3 – Psalm 3 Week 4 – Psalm 8 Week 5 – Psalm 51 Week 6 – Psalm 103 Week 7 – Psalm 23 Week 8 – Psalm 137 Week 9 – Psalm 6 Week 10 – Psalm 73 Week 11 – Psalm 90 Week 12 – Psalm 150 The Psalms are broken into five books.   Psalm 1-41 is Book 1.   Psalm 42-72 is Book 2.   Psalm 73-89 is Book 3.   Psalm 90-106 is Book 4.   Psalm 107-150 is Book 5.   Each book ends with the phrase, “Praise be to the Lord… Amen and Amen!”   These five books correspond with the five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy).   According to the YouVer
