The CSB Worldview Bible Review

Thank you, B&H/Lifeway for sending me the CBS Worldview Bible to review! The CSB Worldview Bible is loaded with lots of features like study notes focusing on worldview, center margin references, worldview-related articles by respected Christian scholars and two ribbon markers. The beautiful navy blue leathertouch cover and silver-edged pages make this a beautiful gift for yourself or someone else. This Bible has recently become my “go to” resource for engaging Scripture. It’s a pleasure to feel in the hand. It’s appealing to look at open or closed, but preferably open… The pages are thin, yet thick enough that you’re not distracted by the printing on the back of the page. The CSB version is easy to read and understand, yet is also one of the more formal word-for-word translations of the Scriptures according to several sources. The introductions to each book of the Bible are informative foundations that connect different books, validate authorship and provide background information to help put the books in context. For example, the Timelines place each book into historical context. Each Introduction concludes with teachings found within the book about God, Humanity and Salvation to help the believer build a Biblical worldview. The articles are informative and thought-provoking. Each one helps the reader to put practical issues on display and helps the reader see how our worldview shapes how we see and deal with those things. This Bible can potentially make you a more thoughtful Christian. It is certainly a Bible I am thrilled to own and will give as a gift to others.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...

Armor of God – Week Five – The Shield of Faith

I must admit that this listening sheet has notes written in every corner and margin.   I was starving for a lesson of faith, apparently.   This is some of what I learned from Video #5: ·          Faith is acting like God is telling the truth. ·          Active faith is a shield. ·          Faith is not foolishness.   It may look like it to the world, though. ·          Whatever God has called me to, He will carry me through. ·          God’s call will sound irrational because His thoughts are not ours. ·          When the dots don’t connect, but we do His bidding anyway, that’s faith! ·          God is sustaining universes not yet discovered! ·     ...
