"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Monzon and her publisher for sending me a copy of "All’s Fair in Love and
Christmas" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I
really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy
available to me.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“All’s Fair in Love and Christmas” is such a beautiful
book!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s loaded with ideas for how to
celebrate Christmas as presented by the main characters, Mackenzie and
Jeremy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These two are colleagues who are
competing with each other for a promotion to be given to the associate with the
most Christmas spirit!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Each needs the
pay raise that will come with the promotion, but there is a complication:
Mackenzie has had a crush on Jeremy since he joined the staff two years ago,
and she is shy and socially awkward.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Jeremy is competitive and wants the promotion, but as the Christmas
spirit emerges in the office, he begins to see Mackenzie as he never has
before.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is a sweet Christmas read that I plan to pick up and
re-read every year during the holiday season.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>There’s a thread of faith running through the work, but it’s not
preachy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The language is clean and so is
the romance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is one of my favorite
books that I’ve read all year!<o:p></o:p></p>Staceyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15067431352006946032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26343155.post-51601832409276202672023-12-09T00:00:00.000-08:002023-12-09T00:00:00.140-08:00Homiletics: John 9<p>Divisions (<i>run-on

review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate
the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.</p><p>“Julia Monroe Begins Again” by Rebekah Millet is my absolute favorite Christian romance novel ever! Such a wonderful debut novel by an author to watch!! Rebekah Millet captures the reader immediately, like a gifted journalist. This book reads like you’re sitting in a café with Julia Monroe herself telling her story over a warm drink and pastry. I found myself staying up way past my bedtime, enjoying the almost musical writing. There are intelligent and likeable characters, interesting situations, witty writing, and logical conflict. I found myself rooting for Julia and Samuel, their families and friends. I cannot wait for another book by Rebekah Millet. And “Julia Monroe…” is going back to the bottom of my to be read pile so I can devour this wonderful book again!</p>Staceyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15067431352006946032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26343155.post-38611194720067522532023-11-11T00:00:00.001-08:002023-11-11T00:00:00.127-08:00Homiletics: John 6:22-40<p>Content (<i>not

then lead him to saving faith in Jesus Christ, with the intention of using his
‘particular set of skills’ to write and illustrate a book such as “Cold-Case
Christianity”!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I love how God works!!!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I cannot even imagine what author and
illustrator, J. Warner Wallace, thought about how his education in art,
becoming a police officer, and putting his faith in Jesus would be used by God
to serve Him!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This book answers that
question beautifully!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I’ve always wanted to be a detective, and I can deduce I’m
not alone in that based on the success of “Cold-Case Christianity”.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am grateful for the education I’ve received
from reading “CCC” and watching “CCC” broadcasts.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These resources have helped me think more
critically about my own faith, and have provided illustrations that I’ve used
when sharing my faith with others.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This armchair sleuth was completely captivated by the first
edition of “CCC” ten years ago!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The
pages of that book are well-worn.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The second
edition is a bit thicker, and according to the back cover, contains 300 new
illustrations/graphics.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Right away I
found the QR Code to access 15 pages of case notes!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And I was listening to the first edition
audiobook while reading the second edition, which led me to discover how much
cleaner the wording is in the new book.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>A brilliant book before, now it is more polished and loaded with extras
that are helping me to comprehend ideas I failed to grasp in my previous reads
of the first edition.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I highly recommend this book to “CCC” newbies and first
edition veterans.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Such a wonderful
book!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I look forward to completely
wearing out this new addition to my library.<o:p></o:p></p>Staceyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15067431352006946032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26343155.post-44836696963612764262023-08-21T13:27:00.003-07:002023-08-21T13:27:52.858-07:00Review: Countdown by Lynette Eason<p>First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Lynette
Eason and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Countdown" to
review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate
the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“Countdown”, the
latest novel by Lynette Eason, and the 4th (and final) offering in
her Extreme Measures series, is a fast-paced, suspenseful, and entertaining
read.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Flight paramedic Raina Price has
been running from her past, watching her back for a long time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>US Marshall Vince Corelli has vowed to
protect her at all costs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These two
travel the country as Raina’s past unravels and several attempts on her life
are made.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is a suspenseful, engaging book that highlights the
importance of God and His sovereignty.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

This highly emotional psalm expresses fear,
anguish, exhaustion, sorrow, joy, and hope.
Ultimately, these verses are about <b>Deliverance</b>. <b>David
asks for mercy and the Lord accepts his prayer.</b></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">When we walk away from our time together today, I want
you to know <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">God hears and responds to

this. Amen.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Our text is divided into two parts, today:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">1. Lord, do not rebuke me; have mercy (Psalm 6:1-7)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">2. The Lord has heard my cry (Psalm 6:8-10)<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Let’s dive right in to this amazing psalm.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Read Psalm 6:1-7</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">This is a song written by David.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It would be accompanied by stringed
instruments.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Sheminith refers to the
lowest note sung by men’s voices, so I hear this as a deep, gutteral plea.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And the words corroborate this.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>David is asking the Lord not to rebuke him
in His anger, not to discipline him in His wrath.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>God’s people will be spared God’s anger and
wrath because Jesus bore the penalty of God’s anger and wrath.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Only those who have not accepted Jesus as
their Savior will experience God’s anger and wrath for themselves.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David asks for mercy. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He confesses that he is faint.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He asks God for healing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He says his bones are in agony.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lord does this for His people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He offers compassion and forgiveness toward
us through Jesus Christ when it is within His power, and also a prerogative, to
judge us for our sin!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The ultimate
healing is spiritual restoration of relationship with our Heavenly Father, and
Jesus provides that too.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is a place
of shelter and safety when we’ve had enough.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David says his soul is in deep anguish.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He asks the Lord, “How long?”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you ever asked the Lord that question?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Just because we’re His doesn’t mean life will become problem free.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’ve come to understand that, in my life,
these circumstances have been allowed by the Lord to draw me to my knees before
Him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These circumstances actually build
my relationship with Him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They help me
see His love and goodness.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They
transform me, and that is good.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David asks for deliverance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He asks God to save him based on His
unfailing love.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Because of His unfailing
love, God sent His Son Jesus to save the world.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>So He has provided the way of deliverance from the ultimate punishment,
which is eternity without God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We will
not always receive deliverance from consequences or circumstances.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Those things build our relationship with
God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They are testimonies to others
about how a godly person walks through certain situations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They reveal how good our God is.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It may not seem like that while we are
walking through trials, but I have to believe that God is in control of all
things, and that His purposes cannot be thwarted, and He has promised that all
things are for my good and His glory.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Nothing will be wasted.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David declares that no one proclaims God’s name or
praises Him from the grave.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This reminds
me of a saying I saw.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I can’t recall if
it was a t-shirt or a bumper sticker.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>But it said, “Born once, die twice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Born twice, die once.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>All living
people have been born once.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Scripture
says you must be born again – of the Spirit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>To be spiritually alive, you must be born twice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you’ve only been physically born, you will
die twice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The physical body will die,
and the spiritual body will be condemned to eternal death.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But, if you have been spiritually born, born
again, you will die once.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They physical
body will die.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But the spiritual body
will live eternally with God!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Hallelujah!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David is worn out from his groaning.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He has flooded his bed with weeping.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He has drenched his couch with tears.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Crying certainly saps your energy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is exhausting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This life can be exhausting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But God is a refuge!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus is a safe place, a strong tower!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When you are worn out, run to Him!!!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">David’s eyes are weak with sorrow.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His sorrow is because of his foes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus is waiting for you to run to Him!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is waiting to grant you salvation!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is waiting to hear your troubles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is waiting to refresh you!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He wants to be your refuge!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Quit running to people and places that cannot
help you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Run to Jesus!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Tell Him everything!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Hold nothing back.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He can handle it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He has very big shoulders.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">This leads us to our first principle:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">We can express our
deepest fears and anguish to God in prayer.<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">How has salvation delivered you from God’s anger and
wrath?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Where are you asking Jesus for
mercy and healing?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What anguish do you
need to bring to Jesus?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How have you
experienced the Lord’s deliverance due to His unfailing love?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Where are you worn out from groaning?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Bring it to Jesus.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What “foes” will you ask God for deliverance
from?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Now let’s look at a few more upbeat verses of this psalm.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Read Psalm 6:8-10</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Now, we start to see a transition in David.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We see a strength rise up in him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He tells those who do evil to get away from
him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lord has heard his weeping.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our strength comes from the Lord.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When we start to see God for Who He really is
– how big He really is – our enemies cannot stand against Him!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Scripture says the joy of the Lord is my
strength.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Where are you struggling with
joy?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>First, understand that joy is not
happiness.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joy is deeper.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joy is available to us in our saddest
moments.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joy is a deep knowing Who God
is and what His character is like in spite of our situation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joy is knowing that He is in control, and
everything is going to work out for His glory and our good.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joy is loving Jesus regardless of what’s
going on in your life.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">The Lord heard David’s cry for mercy and accepted his
prayer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Isn’t it wonderful to know that
God hears our prayers?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He may answer, “no.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He may answer, “yes.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He may answer, “not yet.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But He always answers His children!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Are you one of His children?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus is the way to God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus is the entrance to fellowship with God
the Father.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>No one comes to the Father
except through Jesus.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Because of His relationship with God, David has absolute
confidence that his enemies will be dealt with.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We can have the same confidence in God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Ultimately, Jesus will judge the world.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We are currently living in a time of grace.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A time where people don’t get what they
deserve.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>God wants no one to perish.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>God wants all people to come to
repentance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you repented and
accepted Jesus as your Savior?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That is
the first step.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Would you like to accept
Jesus as your savior, now?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If so, pray
with me:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Lord Jesus, I come
to you now because I am a sinner in need of a savior.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You are that savior.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thank you for dying on the cross.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thank you for rising from the grave and conquering
death.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thank you for saving me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Begin your good work in my life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Amen.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Once you give your heart to Jesus, He begins a
transforming work in you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As He does His
good work in you, He will teach you many things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>One thing Jesus tells us is to pray for our
enemies and bless those who persecute us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>When we pray for our enemies, our heart changes toward them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Pray for the salvation of your foes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Pray for a heart change in yourself.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">And here is our final principle:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">The Lord hears
when we call out to Him</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">How has the Lord responded to your weeping?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How do you know God has answered and accepted
your prayer for mercy?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How will you pray
for your “enemies”?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Holy Father, thank You
for the Scriptures.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thank You for
salvation in Jesus.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thank You for trials
that draw me closer to You and lead me to pray.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Thank You for rest and refreshment.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Teach me to trust You to be in total control and to know what’s best in
every situation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In Jesus’ name.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Amen.<o:p></o:p></i></p>Staceyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15067431352006946032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26343155.post-26113127942173272102023-07-15T00:00:00.001-07:002023-07-15T00:00:00.138-07:00Homiletics - Psalm 6<p>Divisions (<i>run-on

Have you ever wanted to see someone “get
their come-uppance”? Have you noticed
that you desire mercy for yourself and justice for your “enemies”?</p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Today, we’re looking at Psalm 137.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These 9 verses are about <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Torment and Vengeance</b>. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In this
psalm, we see <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Israel wept, and was happy
over Babylon’s doom.<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">When we walk away from our time together today, I want
you to know <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Vengeance belongs to the
Lord, regardless of our torment.</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Father-God, we pray
in Jesus’ name that You will speak to us through this psalm today.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Help us to see that You are always worthy of
praise.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But that You also have very big
shoulders and can handle our complaints. Amen.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Our text is divided into two parts, today:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">1.By the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept (Psalm
137:1-6)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">2.Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction (Psalm 137:7-9)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Let’s get right into this teaching.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Read Psalm 137:1-6</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">As Psalm 137 opens, Israel is reminiscing over the “good
ole days”. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She is remembering Zion while
sitting by the rivers of Babylon.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Do you
recall why Israel was sitting by the rivers of Babylon?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Judah was captured by the Babylonians as
taken there.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Why?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Because she turned her back on the Lord and
engaged in idolatry.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The good ole days.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not so much.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Are you clinging to some “good ole days” that really weren’t all that
good?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">She hung up her instruments and didn’t want to sing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is a challenge to praise the Lord when you
are hurting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But that is a wonderful
time to praise the Lord.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It will lift you
out of your prison of sorrow.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I remember
reading an account of Corrie ten Boom’s time as a captive of the Nazis at
Ravensbruck concentration camp.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A Bible
had been smuggled into the camp, and Corrie’s sister Betsie read in the Bible
that in all things, they were to give thanks to God, and that God can use all
things for good.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So Bessie praised God
for the fleas and the lice that infested their overcrowded barracks. Corrie had
a difficult time giving thanks at first, but at Bessie’s insistence, she
eventually did thank God for the fleas.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Because of the fleas, the guards wouldn’t enter the barracks, so the
women were protected and they were able to have Bible studies.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">What not so “good ole days” would you rather forget, but
if you really think about it, you’d have to admit that Jesus was right there,
working in you, and doing miraculous things?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">But what about when your tormentors demand performance
from you?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was going to say that I’ve
never experienced being taken captive, and then hearing my captors demand that
I sing joyful songs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But I kind of feel
like I’m there right now.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">In June, our music minister left us and moved across the
country to be the worship pastor at another church.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I still feel the soreness from being
blindsided by the announcement.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m
still trying to catch my breath from his leaving the week before our patriotic
musical.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I still feel the squeezing in
my chest wondering what will happen to our choir program and the trip we have
planned for next summer to Scandinavia!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I couldn’t sing because I couldn’t control my breath.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thought I was done.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then, our first Sunday without him, the
people in our church came together so beautifully to make it the best worship
time we’ve had in a long time!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I could
breathe.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And I could sing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Joyful songs.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">The tightness in my chest and inability to breathe comes
and goes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But I know God is doing a
miraculous thing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is working where I
cannot see Him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is growing my faith
in the midst of this pain.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I look
forward to seeing His plan unfold.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Reminds me of that song “While I’m Waiting” by John Waller.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Check it out.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">We can sing songs of joy while we’re waiting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We can serve God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We can praise Jesus and worship Him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is our choice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our sacrifice of praise.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I don’t want to wallow in self-pity!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I don’t want to be over-dramatic and
attention-seeking!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This earth is not my
home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am in a form of captivity.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I can absolutely choose to praise God while I’m
here and not feel sorry for myself.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How
about you? <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">This leads us to our first two principles:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">We can learn from
the sorrow of the past</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Jesus is deserving
of our praise, even in the midst of our pain.<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">How might you adopt and pursue Jesus’ attitude toward
your persecutors: “Forgive them, Father, they don’t know what they’re doing”?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Where are you indulging in self-pity that you
could turn around with a sacrifice of praise?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>What tiny thing will you choose to praise Jesus for right now?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Now let’s look at the last few verses.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Read Psalm 137:7-9</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">When we allow ourselves to marinate in negativity, we get
bitter, not better.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is what
happened to Judah in this psalm.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They
dwelled on what the Edomites did to them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>It is difficult to forgive those who hurt you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus said to forgive your enemies and pray
for those who persecute you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And isn’t
that exactly what He did on the cross?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He forgave the people who nailed Him to the cross while He was hanging
from it!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Oh, Lord, if I could be like
you in this area…<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Judah was relishing the coming destruction of
Babylon.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They looked forward to absolute
annihilation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They spoke of happiness at
seizing their infants and dashing them against rocks!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Happiness!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>At murdering infants!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Oh, how low
the human heart can sink!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The oppressed
become just like their oppressors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Let
it not be.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">In my workplace, there are a couple of supervisors who
should not be supervisors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Because of
their lack of confidence and good mentors to guide them, they are
dangerous.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They wield authority without
considering consequences.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They bully
employees.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They make demands just so
people will do what they say.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They are
bosses, not leaders.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And I have
disrespected them for years.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My heart
has grown crusty with the frustration.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>But I must praise Jesus that He is allowing this situation to exist for
a reason.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is trying to teach me
something.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is showing me that, in spite
of circumstances, He is in control.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I
work for Him, but He put me under this supervisor for a reason.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Open my eyes, Lord, to see what You want me
to see.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To learn what You want me to
learn.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Open my heart to
forgiveness.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Does anyone else out there
know what I’m talking about?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Don’t let the bad situation make you bitter.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Choose to praise, and let Jesus make you
better.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And let Him deal with the
evil-doers.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">And here are two final principles:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Pursue mercy, not
vengeance, in spite of the situation.<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Leave vengeance to
the Lord.</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">What needs to change in your thinking for you to pursue
the salvation and sanctification of your “enemies”?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Let me ask those questions we started off with
again.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you ever wished harm on
someone?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you ever wanted to see
someone “get their come-uppance”?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have
you noticed that you desire mercy for yourself and justice for your
“enemies”?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now let’s take it a step
further.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you ever seen someone
receive the harm you wished on them?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Have you witnessed someone receiving their come-uppance?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How did it make you feel?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Do you still want mercy for yourself?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What needs to change in your heart for you to
desire mercy for your enemy, too?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What
steps can you take right now toward choosing to praise Jesus?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Thank You Father, for
preserving these words in Scripture.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Thank You for being a big, big God Who is always listening.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thank You for Your example of mercy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Lead us to share Your grace with others
passionately, remembering that justice is coming sooner than we realize.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In Jesus’ name.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Amen.<o:p></o:p></i></p>Staceyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15067431352006946032noreply@blogger.com0
